Shàn Yuán Fragrance

We designed a signature fragrance system for the brand SHÀNYUÁN, blending Eastern philosophy with modern technology to reinterpret tradition through contemporary design. Inspired by the I Ching, the product explores balance between motion and stillness, embodying harmony among scent, space, and time. More than a fragrance device, it represents a mindful way of living—its rotation evokes the meditative calm of a prayer wheel, while its stillness mirrors a sundial, symbolizing awareness of time and inner peace.

Drawing from the Yin-Yang and Five Elements philosophy, the design transforms between two modes—portable and display—reflecting the natural rhythm of transformation. Crafted from materials such as metal, sandalwood, obsidian, mother-of-pearl, and plant-based composites, each element conveys a connection between nature and human craftsmanship.

The modular system combines a portable perfume capsule with a display diffuser. In portable mode, its lipstick-inspired form features a 10ml replaceable capsule for daily use; in display mode, it transforms into a “sundial–prayer wheel” diffuser, using centrifugal force to spread fragrance dynamically. It can also serve as the cap for a 50ml perfume bottle, extending both function and ritual into daily life.

Every detail reflects SHÀNYUÁN’s pursuit of serenity, balance, and sensory poetry—a bridge between technology and spirituality, offering users a tactile and emotional journey where art, nature, and inner calm coexist.
